Happy New Year to all!

We're a bit late with the update this time, as we left Dhaka for our trip to Australia just after Christmas, and returned a few days ago. What a great trip! We managed to catch up with a lot of friends, go shopping for some of the things we can't find so easily in Bangladesh, and enjoy some wonderful meals at local restaurants.

The kids liked it too - we went to the aquarium, lots of playgrounds and parks, and the zoo. It is of course summer down there, so we had great weather too. Well, most of the time. We happened to be there for the hottest New Year's Eve on record, when the mercury climbed to 109 degrees. Not fun, but it quickly came back down to normal temperatures a few days later. In fact it got downright chilly, making us glad about one thing in Dhaka - that we don't have to constantly be bundling ourselves and the kids up everytime we want to go outside. Instead, it's pretty much shorts and t-shirt weather every day.

The trip from Dhaka to Australia was a bit long but not too bad; we had an overnight stopover in Bangkok on the way there, and then when we showed up at the airport for our trip to Australia the next morning, we were surprised to find that Thai Airways had upgraded us all to First Class seats! That gave us loads of room for the kids to stretch out, as well as very kind service from the flight attendants, who doted over us all.

Crystal had her birthday on our trip, and we were able to get babysitting taken care of for the evening after, so that we could go out to a celebratory dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in town, Punch Lane. Yummy food and superb cheeses - one of the things we miss here in Dhaka.

Now that we're back 'home' in Bangladesh, we're settling in to our old routines again. Tasman starts school again after the break in a few days, Atlas is going to baby group again, Adham is back to interviewing visa applicants at the Embassy, and Crystal is the glue that holds it all together. We don't have any firm plans yet for trips this year, but we're sure there will be some. And as always, friends and family are welcome to come stay with us. Like the poster say, "Come visit Bangladesh - before the tourists do!"
