Bonjour!

We made it! We've been here a month now - the rainiest August in Paris history. But hey, it's Paris! Neither of the kids has started school yet, so Crystal has had lots of time to take them to some of the sites of their new home. Some of the highlights so far include the Eiffel Tower, a tour of the city from the deck of the Bateau Mouche boat, visits to Notre Dame and Sainte Chapelle churches, walks through the Tuileries garden and Carnavalet museum...already a very different atmosphere from our two years in Dhaka.

We really lucked out with our apartment - it's located a 15-minute walk from the Embassy, one block from a Metro station, and near lots of markets, shops, and restaurants. Of course we've mostly beeen window shopping - it's shocking how expensive everything is, and how weak the dollar is compared to the Euro. Still, we manage to treat ourselves to fresh baguettes and pains au chocolat on a fairly regular basis.

The kids will be starting school soon, so we'll be watching how they handle that adjustment. One thing we love is how they're really excited to go to museums and historical sights. This past weekend we were talking about our activity options with them, and their first choice was to visit the Opera - so off we went for a tour. Today it was up to the top of the Arc de Triomphe - thanks to Uncle Lennie for that tip!

We're expecting lots of visitors here, and in fact have had our first already - friends of ours from the US Embassy in Netherlands staying Labor Day weekend with us. We've got a great set-up for guests, so let us know if you're coming through town.

Here are some photos of our first month in this great city
